Searches confirmed at US Muslim sites

US officials have confirmed that thousands of searches for radioactive materials have been conducted at Muslim sites across America in the past three years.
According to the New York Times, the government has a secret programme to monitor homes, workplaces and mosques in at least six cities for signs of nuclear radiation.
A US Justice Department spokesman said the programme was necessary in the fight against terrorism.
