I recently came across a situation where complete knockdown prefabricated kitchens, appliances, cuboards, fittings such as handles, tiles, fans, filters etc were made in China and a number of Chinese staff were on hand to 'supervise' and install in a large highrise accomodation block.
Prefabrication will eventually take a lot of the high cost and high profit items and work out of project home and appartment building. Internet communication and IT will also transfer a great deal of the detail work ofshore. Steel structures can be prefabircated, formework even. It is only a matter of time before they perfect this.
The only thing we have going for us is the minerals industry and becuase both temporary and permanent work visas and immigration is relatively unlimited not even the Australian population will be needed to extract this and will therefore not benefit from this. They don't need us. Immigration is the unstoppable runaway monster that ate the west.
I can't say that agriculture will be a saving grace for Australians. The shortage of good land and natural water supplies caused by the growing population will erode our advantage in this area as well.
