k Gavin Staples i agree with your arguments on the above issue. Whilst k truth has sort of "threaten" retaliatory actions by the au govt if k kim comes to power, i doubt k kim would resort to this mode of dialectics bearing in mind as you said that kim irrespective of his potential political standing would hazard to throw the gauntlet on an issue he knows fully well that k nguyen is at fault even he was given TWO YEARS of chance to recant and name the kingpin.

One nation has to respect another nation's laws and to threaten "retaliatory actions if he gets into power after howard" is rather puerile and vindictive.

As i have already stated in previous post on the same subject, it would ameliorate the situation somewhat if howard plead for k nguyen be deported to au to serve life imprisonment there instead of rest here in sg. The reason being that it will be the onus of au to pay for the maintenance of k nguyen for life imprisonment in au and not sg. Mutatis mutandis, sg saves the trouble of hanging a convicted prisoner. a sort of win win situation for both nations.

Alas howard did not plead the k nguyen case to pm lsl in korea this way and of course pm lsl answer is to the lettter that k nguyen will be executed on dec 2.

Yes, justice must be tempered with mercy. k nguyen was given TWO YEARS of mercy to name names and he gave none. Has k nguyen a rest wish? Or has the au inculturation changed him so much? That is the rub.

There is still time for howard to act if he wants to show the world that au is no more practising the long standing white policy which he just closed the chapter.---- au did not do much in the beginning of k nguyen's conviction for TWO YEARS until now, showing that howard is "forced by some quarters in au" to show his white policy or use this gambit to gain points for his next election.

A 25 year old au pr and citizen of vietnamese descent will die on dec 2. that is TEN DAYS FROM NOW if au does not make further negotiable attempts to save a fellow australian.
