Just to put your pro Singapore tirade into context:
Of the listed countries only the USA has a not well but still functioning democracy! Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are only pretending! China and Saudi Arabia are no democracies. Indonesia might one day become a real democracy if it is able to deal with the shadows of its own past! At least they are trying hard!
Linux has no US ownership! One can always use a distro that does not return any money into the US. You either have no clue about Linux or you are just lying to prop up your own argument!
Many of those who are opposed to the rest penality also prefer supporting the manufacturing and tourist industries of their own countries for social, economical and political reasons. These days the mindless pursuit of profit led all of us into the trap of depending on countries that wilfully trash even the most basic human rights. Your idealised "good feeling about public safety" in Singapore is bought at a much too high price! An Orwellian police state is able to provide a good illusion of safety for its mindless drone citizens (until they are end off in nasty wars for the interests of their masters). And if you are one of thoose drones; well are you?
Illusion of safety! You are yet to demonstrate any useful effects of the praised rest penality except providing jobs for the hangmen and grave diggers!
Civilised behavior dictates that people try to deal with problems in the least destructive way. liquidateing people is the most distructive thing man can do!
So all those who can should boycot Singapore. The only argument that they will ever understand is less money in their state treasury!
Ordog Either the neocons go or civilisation does!
