Actually, there was no political correctness in post war British migrants. They would not have known what the words meant in those days. They were replying to the Australian Government's pleas to build up the numbers here. It was an easy choice. A planted out hopeless life and West Indians flocking in or sunshine and a future for kids. Union trouble makers they certainly were. That was the pre-war condition of working life and they knew no other. They never saw a future without struggle. It had never happened in their lives. In fact, if you are old enough to remember, Australians before the 1970s had never known life without a struggle and poverty even with statistically having one of the highest standards of living in the world.
It just goes to show how bad most of the world lived before post war technology turned everything round. PLENTY has only happened within my lifetime and it makes unionism in this country now obsolete.
As far as the influence in the Universities goes, I think the British had little influence. Education to the British mind used to mean Eng. Lit and Philosophy and Clbuttics. That died in the 1960s. What had happened was the American publishing houses swamped the English speaking world with post war jewish writing on Social Science. They had the money and the glossy paper and creative methods of marketing. Universities in Australia now are really Columbia and UCLA extensions with the same printed material. Very little English influence at all. You also want to be quietly thankful about that as well. English education is now an embarrbuttment. Everything dumbed down to accommodate ethnic standards.
