What nonsense ...locking up a rapist for 55 years pretty much guarantees they can't re-offend.
How is that possibly "worse" for society than putting them back on the streets after one year?
Given the difficulties in curing loveual offenders, it is in fact just the opposite ... shorter prison terms make the problem worse, by exposing more innocent victims to these predators.

Either you accept that there is value to society in removing violent offenders from the general community for long periods or you don't ... which is it?
Hilarious ... the NSW government can't even get the courts to enforce a 55 year jail sentence for the most heinous of criminals ... suffice to say there will be no lynching any time soon.

There would NEVER have been "race riots" in Sydney if the NSW state government had taken seriously the problem of criminals targetting Cronulla beach goers. Moreover, when the public then learns that police were being instructed to go soft on certain ethnic groups even in the face of blatant criminal behaviour , it was bound to increase resentment.
In other words, nice try blaming Howard for something that the NSW state government, by inaction against criminals, has escalated to a new level.
