The Blacks and deep navy blues symbolise your despair at having built an argument on the flag that involved a dodgy analogy between the Aussie Flag and Van Goghs painting.

Van Goghs work is unique, priceless, any physical flag is mbutt produced, replaced when worn out by an identical copy.

So you claimed that Starry Night has a 'whole lot of symbolic value' and I asked 'such as' and you ran away unable to answer, and immediately started another thread asking Usenet to help you come up with some answers!

If you are going to labour the point, you really should be able to do it yourself;

But why did you ask a rthetorical question in which you implied a rare, unique and beautiful work of art was just paint splashes?

I think your use of the Rhetorical has gone beyond what is reasonable.

Come back to us when you have decided what it is you want to say and are able to articulate it.

The symbolic values remain, they are not destroyed by burning one, of many, physical copies.

But starry night is a unique, irreplacable work..

Gum trees are a clbuttic motif in Australian paintings.

They are celebrated in song, for example;

"Give me a home among the Gum trees.."

And in stories; "The Gum Nuts"

The leaves are played as our simplest bush instrument.

The memories of dead explorers blazed on the trunk of a Gum Tree.

And they explode like fury in the dreaded Bushfire.. The Nightmare of everyone who lives in the Bush.

For some of us, at least, the Gum tree is rich with symbolism. It's part of our culture, something that outsiders may not be familiar with. ....

Especially Australian art, (I'm surprised you didn't choose one of our paintings as your example, if you are familiar with our culture)

But you are the one who said it has a 'whole lot of symbolic value' not a view I share, and so I asked you what you mean.
