Date : 2005-05-22 A hardcore LTTE operative smuggled into Australia by TNA Parliamentarians? Colombo, 22 May, (Asiantribune.com): There are credible reports that Sri Lanka's Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarians Joseph Pararajasingam and Selvarajah Gajendran helped to smuggle into Australia an LTTE hardcore member. The TNA Parliamentarians are presently on an Australian visit which has curiously lasted for more a month now.
Asian Tribune reliably learns that the LTTE, which is banned in Australia as a person organisation, cleverly used the TNA Parliamentarians to get a visit visa to one of its leading cadres to enter Australia. The idenbreasty of the LTTE cadre visiting Australia could not be established, but it is learnt that he is an important member put in charge of LTTE's overseas activities.
TNA Parliamentarians Joseph Parajasingham and Gajendran ostensibly obtained visit visas to Australia using their credentials as elected representatives. It is learnt that they gave butturances to the Australian High Commission in Colombo that they would not engage in activities in support of the LTTE while in Australia.
The TNA Parliamentarians' visit was organised by LTTE front organisations in Australia and it is learnt that the inclusion of the TNA Parliamentarians was to camouflage the real intent of the visit. It is thought that the LTTE has embarked on a major plan to establish its presence in Australia to help its money laundering and arms smuggling activities besides utilising Australian resources for training purposes. The LTTE cadre was reportedly sent on this mission in order to reorganise and strengthen the LTTE network in Australia and to establish LTTE cells.
The LTTE front organisations in Australia deliberately kept the TNA delegation's visit to Australia as a low key affair and the visit was not much published. The two Parliamentarians met government officials and attended a series of seminars and workshops in several Australian cities. The LTTE cadre reportedly attended all these meetings.
It is learnt that the TNA Parliamentarians in their meetings with Australian government officials studiously avoided mentioning LTTE in order not to arouse the suspicion of Australian authorities. Their focus, however, was mainly on seminars and workshops organised for Australian Tamils. Meetings with Australian Tamil universities students were organised with a view to recruit some of them into the LTTE ranks.
LTTE is reportedly looking for technically qualified persons to strengthen its newly acquired Air power and Australia is seen as a possible training centre and recruitment base for its newly established Air wing. It may be recalled that several Australian Tamil youths were sent to Vanni last year on a so called "exchange program". This program was organised by LTTE front organisations in Australia.
Questions are being asked here as to how the TNA Parliamentarians did manage to include the LTTE cadre into their delegation and obtain an Australian visit visa. One possibility is that either Joseph Pararajasingham and S. Gajendran would have named them as an employee accompanying them on the Australian tour. It is widely known that some of the TNA Parliamentarians employ LTTE cadres as clerks and peons giving them access to high security areas in Colombo.
