Not really. Only two definitions were advanced, one by Rev. Headjob was part plagiarised, and the rest refuted,
Rev Headjob has abandoned the field to pursue his vocation, you agreed with the central part he lifted from my definition, and no one else has provided any critical challenge, or rational refutation of this definition since it was posted;
"There is a fundamental distinction between multicultural and Multiculturalism, which racists constantly and deliberately confuse.
A society is multicultural if it has more than one culture being practised within that society.
'Multicultural - A society which embraces a number of minority cultures' - Macquarie Dictionary
Multiculturalism is two things, the -ISM indicates that it is a set of beliefs or ideas about multiculture, ie a recognition of multicultural REALITY, an acceptance of it, a celebration of it. But it is ALSO a set of government policies to formalize that recognition, acceptance and celebration! Thus the Howard government has a Department which documents the positive economic social and foreign policy benefits from having a successful, open, democratic multicultural society."
I thought only one and a half were advanced.
Did I miss some?
There was Rev heads, largely rubbish, and the rest plagiarised from the post preceeding it! B^D
And the one above.
Have there been others?
Ferdies only contribution on a topic he lays claim to being an expert in, was to cut and paste an anti-multuralist polemic in which the primary tactic was to suggest, that multiple definitions create confusion, and then proceed to do precisely that with overblown and turgid twaddle that no one read and even fewer commented on.
You seem to be conceeding him victory with his ploy, whereas in my view he and Rev Head have shown themselves utterly incapable of contributing to a rational discussion on the topic... surprising, one would think, because that, used as a vector for racism, is their raison detre, and their sole obsession! 8^o
Were there any others i have missed?
Because otherwise a good working definition of Multiculturalism as a POLICY, dealing with-recognisingcelebrating, the multicultural reality in which we find ourselves stands without substantive critique.
On the other hand, if we accept ferdie's thesis, echoed here by you, that it's all too complex and confusing to talk about, then we will enjoy never having to endure another of ferdie's derivative cut and paste hatchet jobs on the topic! B^D
Race or ethnicity are different topics from the Multiculturalism debate and should have been dealt with in a separate thread.
The flurry of wings flapping there is because troppocuss inserted his obsession over the terms 'race' and 'racist', into a post about multiculture (he has been following me about (stalking may not be too strong a word ;-) like a sick puppy, demanding I give him some attention.
Aielyn ran rings around the poor dolt!
It was embarbutting to watch. B^D
Ah well, they will just have to learn to live with the multicultural reality, because they can't remove reality by lying about it! B6)
I doubt it! B^D

come from different cultures, and live different lives that could be categorised into groups if you chose to do so.

- Rev. Headjob, liar and thief demonstrating the deliberate confusion.
