fasgnadh Multiculturalism as official policy in Australia will die a well deserved rest at some point during the "War on Terrorism". Deliberately encouraging migrants and their offspring to remain within society as separate "ethnic" groups, rather than encouraging them to adapt to the national culture (or even leaving them to their own devices), has had its day. The mono cult ism Menace Nazism, fascism, racism, ferdie, burro, and those who can't getsteaknife Oh, it's Madame Zara and her Crystal Balls! B^D And how would you propose the Irish, Aboriginals, Greeks, and Anglos would CHANGE their ethnic groups, you lunatic!? B^D Multiculture... In recent years, several European governments, notably in the Netherlands and Denmark, have completely reversed their support for multiculturalism, and have returned to an official monoculturalism. A similar reversal is the subject of debate in other EU countries including Germany and the United Kingdom, where in August 2006 the community and local government secretary Ruth Kelly made a speech, which some saw as signalling the end of multiculturalism as official policy. The current Labour government now appears to favour something called "social cohesion and inclusion." It will take a person attrocity in Australia similar to the July 7 plantings in London (or two or three or four) for the social consensus among our elite in favor of multiculturalism to fracture. But in the long sweep of history it is going to go down as a divisive, short lived failure. |
