Many of the prophets, such as Abraham, Jacob, David and Soloman practised polygomy; sometimes having dozens of wives and concubines.
Muhammad (peace be upon him) was not an exception. Monogamous for 25 years from the age of 25 to 50 (when his wife died) he then married twelve women including a nine year old called Aisha bint Abu Bakr.
Aisha, daughter of Abu-Bakr was six years old when a marital contract between her and Muhammad (pbuh) was made. The two were married three years later. Traditional sources state that she was fourteen years old when the marriage was consummated. There are no sources that indicate abuse.
