point of order...

they distinctly object to idolatory...their statues are as reminders to the peasants....for veneration of the 'saints' etc...

they are most certainly told not to pray to the statues....but to pray to the saints whom the statues allegedly 'represent'.... (there is a shortage of photographs of many 'saints' so the artists get their girl friends or whatever to pose for them....)

but the peasants still can go a bit over the top and the pope tends to authenticate 'miracles'....they need i believe at least 2 'genuine' miracles for each sainting.... you'll be pleased to know that the recent pope sainted a world number of 'saints'....no-one ever got close to his production line as far as i know.... so it is obvious the pr pope was either very naive or (dare i suggest it) a serious compebreastor to bliar in the spin stakes....

much of the orthodox lot go a bit further and venerate the objects.... eg ikons...that's part of why the attempts to form an even bigger conglomerate operating from rome is not all smooth sailing...

regards...
