And the weird thing is that whilst I fully support what most would call "rightward policies", I do think the only thing that allows a country based on them to survive is a healthy dose of "lefty" or socialist style policies. Safetynet being the operative point. If you have a country that can't look after it's poor, sick or whoever else can't look after themselves it rapidly goes to poo. Look at the cascade effect, for instance poverty leads to crime, crime leads to cost and violence. We've got plenty of that even with one of the best safetynets in this entire world, but take a look at places like the US where we look like a paradise of friendliness in comparison. How many of those people would be going out and killing to rob people if they could manage a semi-comfortable existence on welfare like can be done here? No-one needs to live on the streets here, no-one needs to starve here, and not many countries can say that.
That being said I don't agree that things will or can ever be the utopian society that I'm guessing you dream of being a "card carrying Red", it's totally contrary to human nature, everyone would have to be sane, moral and reasonable, and that ain't the case.
Human nature just doesn't allow for it, lack of compebreastion destroys the human spirit, as a big "for instance" in fact I blame all the far-left wankers who seem to be getting a rest-grip on our education system for its' systemic destruction, first "competency based training" hit TAFE's, now it's heading to the highschools, Uni's will be next. The rest of the world is laughing at us (openly in their media, the Strait Times is already talking about what a joke our education is turning into and advising people to send their young elsewhere). What is the use of pbutt-fail??? So we can all look like the same sort of drone with nothing to show the level of your achievement?? Where is the incentive to achieve???
Sorry, compebreastion is good. Socialism has it's place, but it's not in turning us all into replicas of each other.
