US software firm to hire 200 for India R&D centre

US-based software company BEA Systems plans to double the headcount at its research and development centre in Bangalore by end of 2005.

"We have 180 people at our research and development centre in Bangalore which started in 2004. By December we will have 400 people at the centre," Shailender Kumar, Country Head for India at BEA Systems said.

To accommodate the rising numbers at its research facility, which is a mirror centre of the similar BEA facility in San Jose California, the company recently moved to a new building.

"The space that we have leased in the new building can accommodate 250 people and as we expand we will hire more space," he said.

Apart from research centre, the company also runs a global support centre from India.

"We plan to expand the number of employees at the support centre from 60 to 100 by December," Kumar said.

To penetrate the Indian market further BEA is also beefing up its marketing set-up. "We plan to double our sales force from 50 to 100 in next two years," he said.

The company on Tuesday launched a new set of products for telecommunications industry that will enable them to gain the ability to increase revenues by creating, delivering and managing converged voice, data, video and mobile services.

Telecom accounts for 30 per cent of BEA's India revenues and some of the biggest names in business like BSNL, MTNL and Tata Teleservices is using its products.
