The Quran, sura 2 ayah 256 -- not 257 -- states: "There must be no coercion in matters of faith." The Quran also states in sura 9 ayah 73: "O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites! Be harsh with them" and in sura 9 ayah 123: "O Believers! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you."

Avneri provided no historical evidence, ample or otherwise. The historical evidence is to the contrary, and it is ample.
