I agree it may be over the top but it's no worse than we'd probably be in similar circumstances. We're still going on about Jim Baxter, 1967 and all that, almost 40 years after the event. In the scale of things world wide that was a pretty meaningless match. I imagine the closest thing in Scottish sport would be our currently crap rugby team suddenly improving, going to Twickenham and winning the Calcutta Cup in style. Can you imagine the hype if that happened? It's one contest yes but it's one very special contest and you have to look at it in that context. Less than 10 years ago England were near the bottom of the pecking order in world cricket at the test level. Now they've won the Ashes from the Australians who at this level have been miles ahead of everyone for years. I'm the first to support absolutely anyone else who plays England at football or rugby. However that's just based on wanting your teams oldest and fiercest rivals beaten. Personally I don't feel the same about cricket so don't mind them enjoying their moment of glory.
