There is no doubt that the Indonesian Police practice entrapment by offering to sell drugs themselves or by using drug addics on their service (legal in Indonesia) . There is no doubt that they habitually are corrupt (to take bribes for various offensese particularly traffic but also drugs). There is no doubt that the Indonesian systems is a joke (I've never had an innocent in 500 cases)
However it seems to me that some rather ugly and embarrasing "mang head" Australians choose Bali where they get a cheap holiday and often behave badly. Its a stupid place to go.
The Indonesians are keen to undo some of the damage that drugs have done to their country (although they blame too much of it on western tourists I think and not enough on their own social problems) so its only reasonable that they've taken a 'get tough approach'.
I do feel sorry for Schapell Corby becuase I believe there is a very strong chance she is innocent.
This model chick "Michell Leslie" and the Bali 9 are however nutcases. They earn a Darwin Award. Tragic really, she'll be lucky to have a few fertile years and a full set of teeth left when she gets out of jail.
Admitedly I've got some close friends that have gone to Bali, they are however highly intelligent, won't break the law, very responsible and researched the issues to minimise the risk. Really no one under 30 should go; for instance someone slack enough not to have a fully sealed boogey board bag.
