I respect ecologically minded people. I even accept socialist minded people. I despise those tacking their discreditied left wing agenda on to important environmental issues. They've hijacked important environmental concerns with their agressive loud mouths. They've pushed out intelligent discussion with lunar politics.
Nonsense. Sweden has just closed 1 of its 11 nuclear power plants and now after all they hysteria only 1 in 10 swedes still wants it closed.
Germany, also closing reactors, is in a very sad economic mess and green-left lunacy by Joachim Fischers Red-Greens is part of that.
Core meltdown was never regarded as 'impossible' if safeguards were bypbutted and engineering standards not adhered as they were in Chernobyle.
Chernobyle itself was a 'communist' reactor. Political imperatives and a hierarchail authority structure unrestrained by dissent meant that safety standards that the Soviets themselves had were bypbutted far to easily. Not only had they bypbutted their own standards but they never had high standards anyway.
In a western reactor we have a huge airtight containment building that we did not have in the soviet union. Radioactive release due to core meltdown in such a situation would be contained in the vessel. In anycase new western reactors are now radically redesigned with inlet pipes well above the water level of the core and with valves spring loaded in the failsafe position. Beyond that we have the HTGR reactors with their ceramic encapsulated fuel elements: the each element of fuel is an ceramic incapsulated grain of sand that isolates much of the radiation.
There were big problems in western reactor certification. They grew in scale and size far to quickly but and this led to some expensive legal and certification bottlenecks but those times are over.
Transmutation has been accomplished in Breeder reactors that have produced power. Fusion has not been accomplished in any meaningfull way. Its absence reflects more on the fact that transmutation requires fast breeder reactors and these have not been developed due to suppresion of nuclear energy and concerns over reprocessing technology promoting weapons proliferation.
If it were 1 km down and 200m up my street it really wouldn't matter. I'd be more irriated by the semi-trailer traffic. Naturally one takes additional precautions by placing it in an area of low to zero population density.
A typical windmill is in opperation barely 40% of the time. The Sun shines only 50% of the day at best and were lucky to store hot water overnight. Tidal power and wave power are similarly intermitant. At best these can cut down out comsumtion of fossile fuels and uranium by 10%-20% becuase these plants have to be oversized 20% in anycase. Beyond that we need to store energy somehow or build conventional and-or nuclear plants to provide a backup. Energy storage just doesn't work. Becuase of inefficiencies we'd need to build 3-5 times as many windmills to provide the same amount of energy due to the losses buttociated in storage.
Jobs in nuclear plants are great. They are clean and they do not involve hazzarsds anyworse than conventional plants.
As for slavery from non white countries. Pffft. I oppose non white immigration. I despise the plantation owners people who brought black slaves into the US for personal greed and thereby undermined the White working clbutt. They were the same kind of moral scum as those who want third world immigration today to keep labour rates down. (so called skills shortage)
Automamtion can replace such people with ease. As soon as the elites realise that they can get cheap labour anymore they will switich to automation, high wages and high training jobs.
Who cares if people make a profit opperating or building nuclear power plants.
So long as it produces cheap clean power and that the wastes are reprocessed and disposed of properly and the issues are dealt with openly and even handedly we will all benefit. There will be regulations and criminal sanctions in place for anyone shortcutting safety illegally.
