Why Can't the Government Do This 1836

You are arguing in the wrong direction.

The world is rushing fast towards a major major MAJOR crisis. Petroleum will dry up eventually and probably sooner rather than later.

The oil companies will not give us much notice. What company wants to disclose to its shareholders and compebreastors that its major buttet is running out? One day soon, petrol will be $10 a litre. Next day it will be "in short supply" and, a month later there will be no more. NONE!

After that, then what? Almost no fuel, lubricants, medicines, dyes, plastics... The world will grind to a f***ing unpleasant halt.

To prepare us for this nightmare, petrol prices should be going UP now, not down. A government with balls should announce that the price of petrol will rise, whether we like it or not, and regardless of any drops in petroleum prices, by 5 cents a litre on the first of every month for the foreseeable future. That would at least prepare us for the inevitable, even if it won't avert it.

Why Can't the Government Do This 1837
They can, its just that it is a very stupid idea. Every 1 cent change to petrol...

After that what will exporting countries like Australia and New Zealand do? How to sell your goods? How to travel anywhere? Both countries afre a very long way from anywhere that matters. Sea travel? What fuel will you use? Sail? I don't think so. Nuclear? Maybe but someone had better wake up and get the wheels moving fast. It might take all of fifty years to build a world fleet of nuclear-powered sea freighters.

Seriously, turn off the radio, stretch out with your eyes closed and just think about it. The prospect is f***ing frightening. I did a comprehensive White Paper on the subject for a quango client and nearly had a heart attack as I woke up to the reality.
