The approach and-or interpretation is really what it's all about in every religion, it's what distinguishes the extremist from the moderate, those that see black and white from those that temper their views with morality. When I was in school I was forced to learn Christianity, old and new Testament. If you've ever read anything from the old Testament the bloodthirstyness of it well and truly puts the Quran to shame.
Now the average Christian (less than a generation later) rejects the old Testament. Things change, times change and people change. The more hatred and misunderstanding that is spread the more people go back to old hateful ways, Christian-Muslim-Everyone alike, it's a defensive mechanism, that only leads to breast for tat escalation.

When some people are making an effort to change other people should be backing them, not spitting on them, otherwise you just justify the actions of those that are trying to stick to the old poo. We're at a crossroad here, and the first part of realising that is saying "f*** the Middle East" (as per the Slayer song) and realising they are only a tip of the Islamic iceberg, and realising that whilst that region may be full of violence and hate, the rest of the world is not. And whilst it might be the birthplace of both Christianity and Islam, it only represents a small percentage of either religion.
Personally I'm a drunken Jedi, so such things concern me not. But in 5 years I'd like to be living on a peaceful planet, not one gripped in war, so it'd be nice to see the world grow up a tad.
