another to Western 'enough is newspapers! But a the law instant. from only kids Then see how television # Wars of religion have raged down the centuries, but when nuclear weapons may be involved, then it is hoped that tempers may cool. What is religion? The word "religion" comes from the Latin word "to bind", and certainly a religion binds a community together and gives a feeling of solidarity. But this is largely unnecessary nowadays, where we have vast civilisations (=living in cities), not tribal gangs. And the "God" to whom most pay homage, he too is unnecessary, originating in the Old Man of the Tribe, of which the tribe has fearful memories and dreams. Why the emotional reaction to cartoons? All cartoons make fun of someone or other, that is their nature, but religion relies on sacredness, censorship, and blasphemy, as cuss words to inhibit freedom of expression, both among its own flock and outsiders. Otherwise, religion would die out in a modern, scientific, environment - where proof of God is demanded, not mere faith. Self-preservation is a key factor; people will believe any nonsense if there is hope of Eternal Life. Indoctrination also - gives emotional entanglement, such that criticism of belief is seen as criticism of one's self. What if Islam conquered the world? What then? Everyone bowing to Allah, five times a day, for ever and ever? What does that prove? - that Allah actually exists? All deities belong to the infant stage of human existence. When we grow up as individuals, we don't need Mum and Dad to tell us how to behave. Same with religion. Nature decrees that the Human Species has a Gregarious Instinct, and all ethics derives from that - we don't need historical anthropomorphic deities to tell us how to be ethical; our social interaction provides us with morals, ethics, etiquette, and laws. Religion nowadays is a handicap and hindrance to human progress, and the sooner it is phased out, the better. Of course, priests, clergy, rabbis, imams, etc, have a vested interest in religion - pension them all off, or find alternative employment. Or, they'll have us back in Wars of Religion.
