Some people are better at self control than others. Society tries to help its members buttert self control, and has processes to deal with those who are unable, or unwilling to control their desires. You can see just how much society buttists with self control during periods of societal breakdown.

You don't need to be particularly strong to resist the urge to satisfy desire regardless of the consequences for those involved. Most people manage it.
But you can't tell be you have never looked at an attractive member of your gender of your preference and felt desire. Most people experience this on a daily basis. It is part of being human.
We feel desire, but we decide not to satisfy the desire. Self control is what keeps us from being rapist.
I understand rape is usually about power rather than love. Most people don't just desire the physical sensation of love, they desire the emotional interaction that goes with it just as strongly. The rapist desires a different kind of emotional interaction than what most people seek during love.
I'd suggest the same kind of people who find satisfaction in kicking a wounded prisoner to rest would find a similar satisfaction in raping someone. As you can see by the recent postings, there seem to be a lot of people around with that kind of psychology.
