It's a very funny satire, hugely entertaining and extremely good movie for understanding how religious cults arise. All students of Studies in Religion 101 should watch it and learn.

But to be truthful, if I were any TV programmer, I would not be scheduling it on Good Friday, out of consideration for the frailty of sense of humour of those good people who dress in their best suits for worship and dare not laugh in church. I'd be worried about a potential loss of advertising....
The fact that Life of Brian could have been made and has been popular now for decades, without some Christian fundy sticking a knife into Michael Palin, does show a very different level of tolerance amongst Christians for a film that many Christians would regard as offensive, blasphemous and obscene. Muslims could learn a thing or two about the value of ignoring what you don't like instead of making a great song and dance about it. The Life of Brian hasn't hurt Christianity in the slightest. But can you imagine what the old Python team could do with Muhammad's life story if they weren't afraid of the consequences?
