A Catholic college sent two priests to work at the same church in West Cumbria, despite both admitting that they had loveually abused young boys.
Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire dispatched Father Piers Grant-Ferris and Father Gregory Peter Carroll to Our Lady and St Michael's Church in Workington after becoming aware of their indecent behaviour.
Father Carroll, now 66, was suspended in 1987 after admitting his crimes to the school's headmaster.
He was sent to Workington, where he worked as parish priest for 14 years from 1987. Carroll was jailed for four years in September for loveually abusing boys.
Now it has been revealed that Father Piers Grant-Ferris, 72, who served in Workington between 1978 and 1989, had also abused boys at Ampleforth a decade before.
The college admitted it became aware of his behaviour 30 years ago but the matter was not reported to police, and Grant-Ferris was sent to Workington to fill a post as an buttistant priest.
Both priests' offences were discovered after a police probe.
At Leeds Crown Court, Grant-Ferris admitted 20 counts of indecent buttault on 15 boys, all aged under 12.
He denied six charges of indecent buttault and one charge of gross indecency with a child which the prosecution said it would not contest.
The 15 complainants were aged under 12 at the time and the offences happened between 1966 and 1975 when Grant- Ferris was a teacher at Gilling Castle, Ampleforth's prep school.
Grant-Ferris was warned he faces a possible prison term. He will be sentenced on January 27.
The priest is the son of the late Lord Harvington, who as Sir Robert Grant-Ferris was a Conservative MP for 31 years and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
Father Cuthbert Madden, the Abbot of Ampleforth, said in a statement about the court cases: "A great deal has changed in the years since (1975).
