Archbishop Pell is not a nut, and he doesn't belong to an organisation of nuts, either.
His religious organisation does not teach jihad, oppression of women, liquidate of apostates, or maltreatment of unbelievers. On the contrary - he is a leading member of the world's largest single charitable organisation, so his words carry plenty of authority.
He is a scholar who has studied many religions, including the Koran, which he finds to be a document which incites violence. He finds that the islamic community is not condusive to reform of this violent document, and he rightly puts his finger on the issues of - the message of violence in the Koran - the inability of Islam to grapple with change & reform to counter that message as reasons underpinning the world-wide problem of islamic violence.
Very few countries do not have an Islamic community, and no country with an islamic community are unfamiliar with violent islamic attacks on its society - be it the beheading of catholic schoolgirls in Java or ganag-rapes of "skip-sluts" in Australia.
(Notice how these heroes like to pick on women - remember Beslan? Muslims worship a psychotic paedophile called Mohammed - of course plenty of them are bound to go wrong - it's what they are taught).
