Hi Valerie

The John Doyle convict that I know about came aboard Lord Sidmouth 2 in 1821 aged 37 from Wexford. He was a gardener and was sentenced to 7 years in July 1820 for cow stealing. His number was 1597.

He appears to have been a sponsor at the baptism of Michael Connelly probably first son and 2nd child of Timothy Connelly in St Mary's in 1830 but that could be co-incidence. First child was baptised at in 1827 no sponsors (C of E)and Timothy was in Bathurst then.

I haven't had time to research this John Doyle any further yet. I do know that Timothy Connelly was buttigned to Major Druitt and later turned up in Bathurst and Carcoar so perhaps John Doyle was buttigned to Major Druitt as well or they met up again in Bathurst or they were friends anyway and kept in touch as they all came from County Wexford.

Even though this John Doyle was 57-8 in 1842 I wouldn't rule him out necessarily - plenty older men married younger women. Have you found their marriage?

What goldfields was he on?

Lyn in Brisbane
