When one thinks that it's now safe to venture out with the knowledge that the name of Australia was first penned on a map by Matthew Flinders, one is taken back when confronted with the following German map dated 1545.
Click the Catalogue link button Now type in the FIND: field Teutsch Astronomei as well as change the No limit option in the LIMIT TO field to select Maps
Click the SEARCH link button
The details of the Map can now be read. To view the map click the MAP option in the Online Resources field
You can enlarge the view of the map by using the ZOOM IN function The SIZE 400 x 400 pixels can be changed (recommended) to 1200 x 1200 pixels.
A close-up of the top of the map shows the southern land mbutt as AUSTRALIA.
