I have his parents' marriage cert, which was 1907. Birth date for William was posted by his daughter's friend. I did look up the births of the 4 children (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk), although I didn't actually print the details. Do recall all the children were born after the wedding date - youngest in 1915.

Uncle only recently told me he thought that is what happened to William. Haven't really had time to go further, plus have been sending for other certs in my husband's line. Only so much 'spare' cash to go 'round! William is not my direct ancestor, other than he married my grandmother's sister. I do have some data on him, plus I have a great deal of data on William's mother's side of the family, which is much more it seems than his daughter apparently knows, . 'Tis she who I'm actually trying to make contact with.
Yes I have seen that entry. Looks promising other than the birth date. I will go back into SP to check for his birth again. Perhaps he lied, although I highly doubt anyone old enough to join up would have. Royal Park Vic? I buttume means state of Victoria. A William BAIN died in Wyalong NSW in 1974 as well. 'Twould be ironic if the Wyalong man was our William ... his clashes with my grandfather is what apparently made him do a flit ... my grandfather died in 1974 as well.

Free? Had no idea. Will check it out. My sincere thanks Lenore, for your response with helpful tips-ideas. All very much appreciated.
Persistance in mentioning who we are seeking does pay off, even when we don't have much info. Someone, somewhere along the line will see and recognize who we seek. Just recently, after several years of posting the little we knew about an aunt, this happened (again). We only knew my husband's "auntie married a 'Len' and with daughter went to Au c1933." Had no idea of what Len's surname was and am presently awaiting the marriage cert. One day after sending for the cert, a friend of a grandaughter of the aunt's saw an old posting, then contacted me. We have data back to 1800 and tons of photos. They only knew grandparents' names and but one grainy photo of their mother as a young child. So I have great hopes that William's daughter and-or her friend Flora CAMPBELL in the UK will again look for info.
