a few), I should have really known the Norminal Rolls would probably only state next-of -kin. Within the full service records is where parents might also be found. I know with my husband (RN) and our our son (RCAF & RCA) and father (RCN & RCA) this is the case. Expect all Commonwealth countries followed similar patterns, particularly pre- 1945-6. It was the case in the two copies I've had the chance to obtain, from the UK (1846-1857) and from Canada (WWl), even though both parties were married. Actually the 1846-1857 one also had his mother's m-s and his siblings listed. Was a real bonus for us.
Questions now are .. Do I want to try to obtain Service records from Victoria on a man who may not be ours'? Would they even allow me to obtain them, considering I'm not directly related? Chances are they still won't tell me who his children are and that is what I really want to know. Perhaps trying to find his rest or marriage records should be the first step I make.
