Digital camera prices and technology changes very quickly. Unfortunately the Choice magazine reviews for this type of...

RM: I've dealt with the highest quality reproduction of images for many years and can say that 5MPixels is more than enough for most applications. I still prefer continuous tone reproduction but in reality it is ultimately made up of the equivalent of pixels, but they are not square in shape. When we look at contone images under a microscope we can see the blurred chemical stains which fade out gradually, but high resolution digital cameras are now capturing those extremely fine shades very well; in act SO well that it is virtually impossible for experts to tell the difference when fair testing is performed. When it comes to comparing the final printed results in high quality magazines (after the halftone screen is applied to convert a picture into dots) it is impossible to tell the difference. These dots are like pixels, but are usually eliptical in shape nowadays.

RM: You've lost me there.

RM: It began years ago. Kodak were always in only ONE business -- "selling film", and every other thing they did, including selling cameras, processing photos, publishing technical books, etc. were only done to "sell more film". Kodak's new aim is to "sell digital imaging cells" (which are now replacing film).
