Hi Steve

Further to my previous message reading a few pages further is the Author's note re "Broken Melody".

" I will endeavour, in a few words, relate how it was I came to produce the characters that live in this story. Nullabean, the station setting of this novel, is the ficbreastious name I have subsbreastuted for one closely connected with the traditions of my family and consequently very dear to me. In the year 1818 my great-grandfather started his life's ambition, which was to push out into the South-west and, from seemingly a wilderness, establish a station and a tradition that would live and be remembered down through the pbutting years. In the first place his dream came true, for this particular station in a short twent years came to be regarded as one of the finest in the Riverina. Hi name was hailed with pride wherever it was mentioned, but in the years that followed his rest, the grim spectre of circumstances worked havoc with his life's work. This story is a dream of what might have been had the glorious spirit of tradition lived as hed had planned. F.J THWAITES
