I suspect the French site that you refer to is actually a Web site featuring posts made to the soc.genealogy.australia+nz newsgroup and its buttociated gatewayed email list GERANZ.
emails to people telling them that they have had a reply to a post and thereby encouraging them to post via their Web site instead of using their own email or newsgroup software. You can tell this site to stop sending emails.
I've even seen one in Dutch if I recall correctly.
In some ways these web sites are not different to Google Groups and the like in that they simple harvest the public newsgroup posts.

So you did join GERANZ and by default contribute to the soc.genealogy.australia+nz newsgroup but do not confuse this newsgroup with the Web site you found. When it comes to these Web sites my best advise is to ignore them.
As for the reply to your message that is missing from the GERANZ archive there are a number of reasons as to why it was archived by the site you found and was not in the archive, eg the reply had the down when the archiving was happening etc
