CARRATT & SOULT in NSW
In delving into my wife's ancestry, I have come across the names of CARRATT and SOULT. These originated in the UK from Nottinghamshire and Derbys and some members of...

Hello Grahame,

A suggestion - before you say you've searched a particular site and can't find something, then make sure you read the instructions tips carefully to ensure you're using the search facility properly.

George is definitely on the IGI (FamilySearch) and was the ONLY christening that came up using ......

George Attwood (or Atwood!) Father - Charles Attwood Event - Birth-Christening Year Range - I used + or - 5 years Year - 1833 Region - British Isles Country - England County - All Counties

And the result is an extracted christening for George in 1833 in London.

Perhaps you tried searching with mother's surname? Rarely included in christening extractions.

You don't mention where you searched for the marriage but I'm presuming a free site. Obviously it's unlikely to be on the IGI as it's post civil registration (1837). That doesn't mean it's definitely not there, just highly unlikely.

So you may have used the FreeBMD web site - again, checking the options you'll find that only about 1% of marriages in the 3rd & 4th quarters, about 10% for 2nd quarter, and a bit over 80% in the 1st quarter have been indexed, so if you didn't find the entry here, that's an awfully good reason!

So, still using FreeBMD you can view the Images of the Indexes (that haven't been transcribed yet) - by search each quarter for 1861 - you need to guess and work your way through the pages listed for surname commencing with A in each quarter.

Thomas Lotton
Hi - I hope this helps J Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888 Surname: LOTTON Given Names: Thomas Event: M Spouse Surname-Father: LATIMER Spouse Gvn Names-Mother: Anne Age: love: M Birth Place...

Alternatively you can use one of the pay sites (ancestry, 1837online etc.) and pay to find the entries. Remember it will still only be an entry from the index - you then need to order the marriage certificate.

For George's christening, you can order the film through your nearest LDS Family History Library.

Another John Doyle
Hi Valerie The John Doyle convict that I know about came aboard Lord Sidmouth 2 in 1821 aged 37...

You can also check the indexes at the LDS FHL or any large genie library - you don't mention where you live so it's a bit hard to tell you where but State Libraries, etc. are a suggestion!

I'm not sure of the relevance to the number of years they spent in Australia - irrelevant information unless you're searching for immigration but you don't say when those years were calculated from or what state they were in!

Hope that helps ......... Susie Z
