Gippsland Guardian indexes

Hi Everyone,

One of the indexes I have had sitting on my computer for a few years has had me worried - it is the only copy, and if something happened to me or my computer-backup discs etc .... Too scary to think abut.

So I am slowly loading it onto the net. It is for The Gippsland Guardian from its start (or at least the start of known copies) in October 1855, to at this stage 5 October 1857. So it is only two years, but I did index absolutely everything. There are names such as witnesses in court cases, in advertisements etc.

It is at and there is only A to C up there at this stage. If it keeps raining, and I get a few other things done, the rest will be up in a few days.

I am happy for people to download it for private use, and for family history groups, historical societies and kindred groups to download copies for use in their rooms. Just I would appreciate the courtesy of being advised where it is being made available (and so I can refer people to their closest copy), and for those holding copies not to further distribute it without first consulting me.

There - that's the end of the legalese bit. If you are downloading copies for public use, please just let me know at

And, sorry - cannot do lookups from it, but there is a link there to at least where it is available in Gippsland.
