The closest thing I can find to Australia's "War War 2 Nominal Roll" the NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) website:
World War II Honor List of Dead and Missing, War Dept, 1946 (Army and Army Air Force):
Broken up by State, then County, then GIF files. Name, serial number, rank and code, e.g. KIA, DOW, etc.
State Summaries of War Casualties, U. S. NAVY, 1946:
Broken up by State, then multiple pages for "Dead (Combat)", "Wounded", "Dead (Prison Camp)", "Released Prisoners", etc. Name, rank, next of kin's name and address.
Unfortunately, because these lists are in image format, you cannot use something like Google site search to locate an individual. You need to know the State and County (or just State for USN).
Also, it doesn't seem to be a complete roll, i.e. some survivors are listed, for example released prisoners, but those that served and were lucky enough not to have been taken prisoner or wounded are noticeably absent (or perhaps I've missed something).
