No info on descendants but found following two records on NAA RecordSearch, John's AIF service record and another interesting one apparently related to he and his wife being stranded during WW2:

John Doyle HOBAN also appears on WW1 Embarkation Rolls at AWM:
According to this, he was a 37 year old accountant when he joined 14-7-1915. On 27-9-1915 in Melbourne, he embarked with the 6th Infantry Brigade 21st Infantry Battalion as Acting Corporal on HMAT Hororata. Next of kin given as "Wife, Mrs. Lily Hoban, The Elms, 17 Fortes Green-road, Finchley, North London, England". He returned to Australia 16-6-1919 with the rank of Sergeant.

With details of rests provided by Neil (particularly the 1985 one), you could search for newspaper rest notices which might with luck put you in touch with still living descendants.
