NSW BDM

Hi Angie and others,

Unfortunately every state has its own specific laws for disclosure of certain information.

When the NSW BDM Federation CD was released in 1993, the closed period was ...

Births = 75 years

When the Between the Wars Index was released in 1995 the closed period was ...

Marriages = 50 years rests = 50 years

Before the indexes were released free on the web there was a change in some of the closed periods which are now .....

Births = 100 years released to 1905 Marriages = 50 years released to 1954 rests = 30 years released to 1974

Different states have different laws and different priorities. And at a guess one of the reasons for NSW making their index free for searching on-line is the limited abilities on the CDs which were produced using KA-WARE software under DOS. Basically it is shocking compared to indexes under Digger - instead of re-doing them under Digger, they chose to go on-line free.

Similarly, the Western Australian ones were also restricted using KA-WARE and they have put theirs on-line for free.

Tasmania took the other path and paid to have them converted to Digger, hence not on-line for free but now easier to search.

All States and Territories are different and have different priorities, closure dates, etc. etc.
