Looking for information on Sidney Allan Charles Newnham. Born in England in 1896. Served with 10th Btn (Yeomanry), Royal East Kent Mounted Regiment. He served in Gallapoli, where he possibly thought about a move to Australia. He was attached to the RAF in 1918 with a commission as a lieutenant. Attending Flight Instructor School, was released in 1923.

On October 14, 1923 while flying an Avro 504K (registration G-EABE) at Cambridge, Sidney was involved in an accident, crashing the aircraft and injuring his pbuttengers. This was as a civilian.

Sometime after he moved to Australia and owned a sheep farm approx 75 miles to the north (?) of Perth, Australia. Farm was called Chicago. Every sheep leaving farm had name stamped or inked. It was mentioned that a son and spouse were still there in 1976. Another son Bob was a pilot, divorced and had no offspring. Possibly emigrated to Canada. He supposedly did fly in Papua New Guinea out of Wewak.

Sidney Newnham's name comes up in Australian government web search.

Service number W26152 in Series B884 Citizen's Military Forces Personnel Dossier. He registered in Claremont, WA (west of Perth).

It can be confirmed that Sidney NEWNHAM died on February 21, 1942 at Mount Palmer (south of Southern Cross) and was buried in Southern Cross on February 23, 1942 ( Grave No 216 C of E section ). It is understood that he died in a shooting accident.

His next of kin was listed as Marion Newnham. It is possible that her maiden name was Macdougall. It is unknown if she was born in Australia or moved from England with Sidney.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone that could enlighten me to further information on this individual, family, surviving or deceased. Any newspaper information on births, rests or relating to accident. I thank all in advance for any help.

Please remove obvious if replying directly by e-mail.

Cheers from Canada

Peter
