Have you had any luck finding a good lab to do decent black and white or sepia prints Barbara?

RM: After having spent years reproducing high quality black + white photos with the largest cameras on the market (up to 12 feet long...

I have tried lots of digital labs, black & white prints range from brown & white to green & white, but never true black (or rather grey, which seems to be the real problem!). They recently fixed a local Ted's lab to print what is now closer to black & white ... but it is still slightly greenish! Can't seem to get any good sepia prints either - they come out a dark brown no matter how little colour they have in them. The lab operators think I am slightly unhinged when I say things like 'oh, it's green today' - it is not until you take in last weeks printouts (of the very same digital file) & show them the brown-tinged photo for comparison that they understand! If someone requests a copy of a scanned photo I usually have to go to a few different labs to get a semi-decent print (still cheaper than buying ink to print at home).

BTW, have also been having similar problems with printing 35mm film - amazing colour-casts from some labs - the Martians have landed - everyone's skin has gone GREEN!

Why is it that the photographic prints from the 1890's are so much better than what we can do now??!!!

Maybe I just need my eyes checked again ....
