Everyone has a book in them Ð but can they get it printed?
If you have long thought of self-publishing your family history or memoir, you may have been put off by the thought of having to tackle the uncharted waters of getting a book to the printer, or the prohibitive cost of doing it. Short print runs can be very expensive Ð but Christine Worthington, Promotions and Publications Librarian at the Prahran Mechanics Insbreastute, which has lately set up PMI Press, says many short print run publishing problems can be easily solved!
Christine Worthington will be the Keynote Speaker at the West Bourke Local and Family History Fair, to be held at the:
Footscray YMCA Sunday 15th October, Eslove Street, Footscray from 10 am to 4 pm. There is a low entry fee of $5.
In addition to the opportunity to learn what Ms Worthington has to tell us, a panel discussion will later take place with a number of experienced local and family historians who will outline their endeavours in publishing: Bill Hannan, of the Hotham History Project, Catherine Reichert of Footscray Historical Society, and Rob Olsten who published a history of his Yarraville family, called ÒNanna and PaÓ.
There will be plenty of expert advice on research techniques and sources as the major genealogical groups in Victoria Ð the Genealogical Society of Victoria and the Australian Insbreastute of Genealogical Studies Ð plus the senior historical society Ð the Royal Historical Society Ð join with a fascinating array of other local history and special interest groups. A full list of exhibitors can be found on the West Bourke Heritage
