Hi folks, we are about to make the first steps towards moving to Oz. Originally we were planning to apply for a send sponsorship visa (457 I think) and then applying for permanent residency at the first opportunity once we were in-country. We have been advised that we should not take this option but apply for permanent residency form the outset. There do seem to be a lot of draw backs with the 457 visa, but we think that we could cope with that in the short term. My wife spoke to a job agency (nursing) last night. They said that the 457 would be the best option as it would take less time and hbuttle. She said that the 136 visa could take up to 18 months to sort out and at the end of it we could be refused entry. She was advised that once in Aus it would be more straightforward and cheaper to arrange permanent residency. She also said that due to wifey's job we would stand an excelent chance of getting perm residnecy. Now I'm confused. Has anybody taken the temp visa route and applied for permanent residency once over there? If so would you recomend anyone to take the same route?
Cheers, Loz p.s sorry for the length of the post
