Whoops: It wasn't an FAQ but the Charter. There appears to have been no FAQ adopted at the same time or shortly thereafter....
RATIONALE: misc.immigration.australia+nz
Australia and to a lesser extent New Zealand are still major immigration countries and the latest figures published by the Australian government prognosticate almost 100,000 immigrants in the year 1997. Given the fact that at least two country specific immigration groups already exist (for the US and Canada) a new group for immigrants to Australia and Zealand seems appropiate. Further, as the vast majority of Australian and NZ news groups are regional and hence not accessible by overseas news group readers (in this case migrants) the integration into an official category (i.e. misc.) is mandatory for wide propagation. The proponents are currently maintaining their own non-commercial web site to provide information to migrants. The fact that this web site has attracted more than 6,000 visitors in less than 6 months indicates a vital public interest in this topic and a strong need for such a news group.
The Charter: misc.immigration.australia+nz is an unmoderated newsgroup which pbutted its vote for creation by 140:23 as reported in news.announce.newgroups on 4 Dec 1996.
For your newsgroups file: misc.immigration.australia+nz Migration forum for Australia and New Zealand.

The group addresses:
1. Pending immigrants (definition: persons who are planning their immigration to Australia-New Zealand but still live overseas) to Australia seeking advice, employment and a new residence in Australia-New Zealand, also for exchanging views and news on current immigration regulations.
2. Australian-New Zealand recruitment agencies, private companies-businesses, government employment services, universities etc. who wish to post job offers; real estate agents and private home sellers; all Australian-New Zealand residents who wish to respond to queries posted by a pending immigrant. As most job offers posted to already existing groups address residents of the same country (no sponsorship required) job offers posted to this new group shall specifically address overseas migrants.
3. The readership and the purpose of this unmoderated group being clearly defined above, we hope that common sense will prevail and that no messages that are irrevelant to migrants will be posted to this group.
