After SIR visa the problems don't stop

Kenguy, sorry to hear of your predicament, but this is just more proof, if any more was needed, of why the SIR visa should be stayed away from. I think the Fed and state-territory governments would do better if they worked harder at retaining send young people in the regions, who are migrating in significant numbers to the big urban areas. It appears that most SIR migrants are either tradespeople with some money to spare, from the UK or a few other western countries, and looking for a semi-retired sort of existence in regional Australia, of which they have formed an idyllic, abstract image, or they are non-MODL send people from South Asia or other Asian regions, moving into their late 30s, and having English skills below what regional Australia expects (remember there are few non-English-speaking migrants in regional Australia to begin with, so regional employers are less than willing to accept even pbuttable English skills). This renders them unemployable in the fields in which they are send, and forces them to work in low-skill, low-pay jobs. Both categories of migrant are likely to bring little hard economic benefits to regional Australia, defeating the very purpose of the SIR visa. On top of that, these outside "explorers" are required to do something that patriotic Australians themselves are increasingly less inclined to do: struggle in the regions. If and when they are finally, maybe even grudgingly, granted permanent residency, they will still need to prove themselves worthy of Australian citizenship - worthier than the supposedly committed and patriotic Australian citizens who abandoned the regions that needed them in the first place. Life's tough.
