App Form semantics. Sender: tobypank

I think I got the answer from a previous JAJ reply.

But I think this subject needs it's own area which I've not been able to find so far. The subject being terminological exacbreastude.

My query concerned whether there is any difference in the meaning of the words 'apply' and 'lodge'.

Basically I will only achieve 6 months relevant work experience 2 days before my 45th birthday and am therefore obliged to send the form prior to having completed the 6 months, oin order to ensure that I'm not excluded straight away on age grounds.

I don't feel I should post-date the application (I may be asked to provide courier receipts?) and so the date of the application could be deemed to be before I've acquired the 6 months. Ie I by doing this, I could be deemed to have 'applied' prior to acquiring the nec. 6 months experience.

However I can arrange to have the application delivered ('lodged' if you will) in the period of time which lies between me acquiring 6 months and hitting 45.

So, to me, the interepretation of 'lodge' and 'apply' is quite crucial. Unless I'm being overly paranoid. My experience with this site and otheres is that being overly paranoid is difficult when applying for Aus. immigration

JAJ appears confident that 'apply' and lodge (and submit) are all equivalent. If so, I'd like to know why two terms are used!

More semantics - 'employment' is actually defined as being paid working at least 20 hours a week(watch out if you're employed for 19.99 hoursweek though).

'Month' - does 26 weeks count as 6 months even if no actual complete month is made (self employed people can only declare paid employment, ie unpaid holidays are lost in terms of employment record).

Thanks Anne. We had applied for 138 and my brother was our sponsor. He's my full natural brother, but had been adopted...

'Week' - does the week begin Sunday or Monday? (or Friday or whatever)
