I have migrated to Australia around 2 years back and having problems not with job but with name and the form it takes!!
My family name: AAA Given name : HHH PPP love ZZZ
Unfortnately my given name is so big that it contains 4 words-syllables. But I am called by everyone ZZZ and I too prefer that way.
My pbuttport reads Surname: AAA Given name: HHH PPP love ZZZ
My bank account, phone connection and gas connection are in the name of ZZZ, since we are asked for First name wherever we go, which I feel my first name. I dont know if I am wrong in giving ZZZ as my first name instead of HHH.I deemed HHH PPP love are middle names.
Recently I wished to apply for my driving licence and took computer based test of VICROADS for L.Licence. My L.L also came with name ZZZ.AAA(Family name.First name). I am very happy until then.
Few days later I went for Full Licence ,at a different branch of VICROADS, this time to my utter dismay, looking at my pbuttport the lady officer told that I have been given my L.L with a wrong name on it(ZZZ.AAA) by different branch of VICROADS and she is going to correct it and issue full licence in the corrected name. Her explanation of my first name is first part of my given name which is HHH!!!. I tried to explain how I am called and how my other documents ,bank card,phone etc.. read. She indirectly told "If you want full licence take it as I give" or stay with your L.L!!
I could not do anything except accepting Full Licence as she gave. Unfortunately in Australia , Driving licence is Primary Proof of Idenbreasty !! And I have to live with name given by this OFFICER!!
I am still wondering whether there is any law in Australia which interprets the way of using and interpreting names.
Should we live with it or can we do anything legally? All comments appreciated.
