Bishops Lambaste Liberalism 21-11-2005
"Perhaps, wrong and false teachings - like the ones that say that all religions are the same and that everyone has the right to live according to what they believe in and what they feel is best - are quietly filtering in, without us realising."
The Archbishop said many called for the right of freedom of the individual and for freedom of conscience, which was anchored in the principle that nobody should impose one's faith and its moral consequences on others.
This led to some justifying all forms of moral disorder and breaches of justice because they believed people should build their moral codes around how they wished to live.
Modern relativism, which was most damaging to the Catholic faith, was reaching these shores.
Both Bishops yesterday in the feast of Christ the King took relativism which is synonymous with liberalism to task. We applaud the bishops for having the good sense to speak out against this perfidious and corrupting ideology. But it is not enough to speak once in a while, the Church we feel has to be much more vociferous and consistent in its attacks. Thanks to the leftists clerics within its ranks many Maltese now think that liberalism is a core value of Christianity. Many Maltese are confused on what Christianity is all about, ever greater numbers are feeling betrayed by and deserting the Church because of this buttociation with liberalism. Relativism is not reaching Malta's shores, it has invaded them.
The Church should publicly chastise those who attempt to corrupt its teachings be they priests, teachers or members of the media. We have begun to witness the consequences of liberalism in the exponential dissolution of our families, in the rise of crime, the increasingly higher rate of single mothers, the lack of responsibility, and the increase of every form of social ill. The very same people who by propagating liberalism have corrupted our society now want to wipe it out with that other liberalist and relativist agenda - multiculturalism. It is time for the real Church to stand up and be counted, because if it does not, something else will fill this desperate vacuum.
