After reading this forum for weeks and weeks, I am now starting, at last, to get my head around the different visas. We have applied for a 457 - this seems to be the worst one to get (havent got it yet anyway). Looked at the official web site, and read booklet 5 and numerous others, and seemed to be getting totally confused. The 457 is not a permanent visa, ours would be for 4 years, although our sponsoring employer said we could just renew-reapply every 4 years to stay in the job. We applied for the 457 because we thought it would be quicker than the others. However we have been waiting since 26th July, xrays done and received by them 4th August, so hopefully we should hear any day now?

Anyway, we have thought alot about this visa, and its just too restrictive. If we are uprouting from the UK we need something a bit more permanent. I have asked our migration specialists about RSMS, as I thought this would be more suitable. By the way we are aged 45 and 46.

I emailed them this morning, and asked them to look into our circumstances, paperwork already supplied etc., And they reply ;- "Why RSMS and not ENS. There is an age cap for ENS and RSMS of 45. However we should be able to have this waived for you. Your employers are the best employers bar none. They always buttist with sponsorship for PR - blah blah blah - We recommend you begin the process now for ENS "

1. My question is, is the ENS better than RSMS? 2. How long does it take to get the ENS? I understand we will have to have medicals, blood tests, xrays and police checks. 3. If the 457 is granted, can we go to Australia on that, and wait for the decision on the ENS whilst we are living in Aus.

Sorry to ask such stupid questions, but the more I read others questions, and the gov site, the more I am getting confused. If this is the right way to go, we feel we should apply for the ENS with the agents as they would make a better job in completing all the forms. We would rather pay the money to have the best chance, than do it ourselves and get refused because we hadnt done it properly, and waste all the time. More expense!

Thank you. Jill
