First post here, so be gentle...
I want to apply for an Australian visa and it looks like my only options are:
a) Independent Send Migration (136), for which the points test applies b) Skill Matching and-or State Territory Nominated Independent (137)
(Is there an option c - the SIR provisional visa, or is this the same as b?)
Option b) is there because I might not have enough points. I can only seem to make 110 points by selecting a 60 point occupation, such as General Electrician (4311-11), but although I have an HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a BSc from the Open University, I have no real experience as an Electrician.
I could go with a 50 point occupation with 5 points for experience (I am a Sales Representative (Information & Communication Products) 2222-13), but that leaves me with 105 points.
The question is: If I go with either option I have to complete Part J of 47SK, and point 92 asks you for your Nominated Occupation. What should I do?
Can I chose the General Electrician even though I can't back it up with experience (I realise I need to get this choice validated by confirming acceptance of my HND against the AQF Certificate III requirement - does the TRA only buttess qualifications or does it cover experience too?)? Perhaps I could study for a more specific qualification at college part time.
Should I play it safe and go with the Sales Rep and look to make the points up elsewhere (though I can't see how as I have already opted to make the $ investment for the extra 5 points)?
Finally, is it worth submitting the Skills Matching application while I get the 136 sorted out, or does this limit my options later on?
Cheers,
Mat.
