Hello. I am a GP who has just applied for and had my pre-grant for a 136 visa. So yes it is possible to apply and get a 136 as a medical doctor.
BUT, the skills buttessment is the tricky bit depending on postgrad qualifications.
Fully trained GPs with full UK postgrad qualifications (MRCGP-JCPTGP or PMETB) are probably the most fortunate group of doctors in terms of Australian permanent migration. Skills buttessment for us is straightforward at the current time.
If a doctor does not fall into this category then it is much more complicated.
To apply for a 136 a doctor must be eligible for either "full" or "conditional specialist" registration with an Australia State-Territory medical board.
There are various routes to either of these - depending on specialty, postgrad qualifications etc. but for many people the only way to obtain either one of these is to sit the AMC exam.
Also even having sat the AMC exam - the doctor will still need to satisfy the recent work experience criterion of the 136 visa - this requires the doctor to have worked in a SOL occupation for 12 months out of the preceding 18. As all the medical pracbreastioner SOL occupations are specialist, then the RWE criterion would probably not be met by a junior doctor prior to specialisation but I suspect this is a significant grey area!!! The ASCO code definitions make interesting reading in this regard.
The topic is too broad for me to offer any more useful general comments...
There are various other options for doctors wanting to work in Australia.
I suggest the doctor who is interested look at the following sources to explore options:
Do Any One KnowIndia does license tradesmen Quote Advanced Training Insbreastute (ATI) formerly known as Central Training Insbreastute (CTI) Ludhiana was established in 1963 by Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGET) under the Ministry of Labour, Government...
Hope that helps to get them started!
