Hi, I know this problem well as I wanted to go to Brissie but am still trying to find ways around this. I too completed a GTP course in D&T and have been badgering our pathetic government since. The way it works is this.
If your girlfriend had completed a SCITT course which would have given a PGCE she could go over and teach. She would still have to complete some extension studies within a year to convert this to a B.Ed. But, like me she has a problem because the GTP is on the job training and has no intensive study to it. (ie time in a uni) There fore it lacks the "initial teacher training" component.
Our govs response (froma senior minister no less), "Well a QTS is all you need to teach here and even an Australian teacher would have to qualify for it. So I can write to the Australian government and tell them how nice you are. (My wording not his, but that was the essence).
So the options I had-have (don't know about Victoria but this is Queenslands view) were to go over and retake a B.Ed at one of their Universities, Do the same via distance learning (both very expensive) or give up teaching and go and do something else. This last one is tempting as I figure it would be nicer doing a really lousy job there, than a really good job here.
Hope this helps a little, Best wishes nad let me know if you get anywhere as I would be very interested. Gary
